今日は”Pandemic tests the nation’s court system’"と言う記事からです。

マスクを付けていると表情が分からないので、

裁判官も、言っていることが本当なのか、心の底からその様に

思っているのか戸惑うようです。

ラテン語のcongruentiaが語源のようです。

分解すると、com "with, together" +

a lost verb *gruere, *ruere "fall, rush" となるようです。

ちょっとピンときませんね。

意味

ケンブリッジオンライン辞書によれば

the state of not being suitable or not fitting well with something else

「不一致」です。

使用例

補足

discreditは、to make people stop respecting somebody/something。

witnessは、法律の言葉では、a person who gives evidence in court、証人。

suspectは、a person who is suspected of a crime or of having done something wrongで、容疑者ですね。
