今日は休刊日だったので、昨日の"Toyota chief’s warning to Apple: The car business isn’t easy"と言う記事から拾いました。

さて、アップルの自動車業界参入に対して、トヨタ自動車の社長が警告しているようです。自動車って、技術だけではなくいろいろな要素があるんでしょうか？

アップル社の自動車業界参入に対して「なめんなよ！」と言いたいのだと思います。

確かにPCとはちょっと勝手が違うような気もします。経験値が必要ななところもが沢山あるのでしょうね。

でもな、アップルって世界じゅうから優秀な社員を集めているし、自動車メーカーは予想以上に速いスピードで駆逐されそうな気がします。

Etymology dictionaryによれば、late 14c., "predatory incursion," Scottish, from the verb (14c.), perhaps a back-formation of Middle English forreyer "raider, forager" (mid-14c.), from Old French forrier, from forrer "to forage," from forrage "fodder; foraging; pillaging, looting". Disused by 18c.; revived by Scott. As a verb from 14c. という事で、古フランス語のforrierでしょうかね。

意味

Oxford learner's dictionariesによれば、foray (into something)で、 an attempt to become involved in a different activity or professionや、a short sudden attack made by a group of soldiersとあります。自動詞では「《軍事》急襲、電撃戦」や「〔新しい分野への〕進出」という意味です。

補足
There's more to A than Bですが、結構よく知られた構文らしいです。「Aに対して、B以上のもっと重要なことがある」が直訳ですが、意味はそのままですね。
