2021/6/7(Mon)はrelitigate です。
今日は"Trump starts public re-emergence with focus on his grievances"と言う記事からです。

litigateは、Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Latin litigatus, past participle of litigare "to dispute, carry on a suit," from phrase litem agere "to drive a suit," from litem (nominative lis) "lawsuit, dispute, quarrel, strife" (which is of uncertain origin) + agere "to set in motion, drive forward" (from PIE root *ag- "to drive, draw out or forth, move"). Transitive sense is from 1741. とあります。
ラテン語の litigareの過去分詞のlitigatusから来てるようです。
で、これは、litem agereというフレーズが起源で、litemは「訴訟」、agereは「推進する」です。結局、「訴訟に導く」と言う意味にreがついたものですね。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、lirigateは、 to take a claim or disagreement to court と説明があります。これ自体は「訴訟を起こす」と言う意味です。もう一つ「過去の事をほじ繰り返す」という意味もあるようです。ということで、最終的には「(過去の出来事)を再びほじくり返す」でしょうか。
