2021/9/6(Mon)はperish です。
今日は"Could Japan soon have a female leader? Sanae Takaichi emerges as a contender"と言う記事からです。
perishは復習かもしれません。
さて、次期首相の話です。
高市早苗氏が日本初の女性首相になるかもしれません。安倍晋三前首相もバックアップしてますからね。
高市氏は安倍前首相と同様に右系の人なので、今の東アジア情勢を考えると良いのではと思います。
高市氏は、神戸大学の出身、Yoshikiのファンで、10代の頃からドラムを演奏し、ロックミュージシャンを目指されていたそうです。なんか、すごいですね。

語源
Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Latin perire "to be lost, perish," literally "to go through," from per "through, completely, to destruction" + ire "to go" . とあります。ラテン語のperireが語源です。per-が「完全に」+ireが「行く」と言う事で「完全に過ぎ去る」と言うニュアンスだと思います。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、 (of people or animals) to die, especially in a sudden violent way、to be lost or destroyed と説明があります。「(災害などで〕死ぬ」、「滅びる」です。語源の「完全過ぎ去る」から想像できる意味です。
記事
During her time as internal affairs minister, Takaichi made headlines with her visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine on the anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II. Visits by key government figures to the shrine, which honors the souls of millions of Japanese soldiers who perished in modern wars as well as Class-A war criminals, often provoke the ire of China and South Korea, which see the shrine as a symbol of Japan's militarist past. *1
