今日は"Return to normal? Japan study suggests adjusting expectations as delta spreads"と言う記事からです。

最近、よく聞くherd immunityのherdです。

さて、我々の希望であるワクチンが最終的な対策になると考えるのはちょっと違うようです。

京大の調査によると、パンデミック以前の生活に戻り、適切な予防策を講じないと、ワクチン接種率が90％に達したとしても、日本では1年間で10万人がCOVID-19で死亡する可能性があるとの事。

これが真実であれば、結局今の生活はず～～～と続くという事です。

ワクチンですが、金曜日の時点で、国民の61.9％が少なくとも1回の接種を受けており、49.8％が完全に予防接種を受けているようです。

でも、ワクチンによる免疫って時間の経過とともに徐々に低下するので、定期的な接種とか必要になるのでしょうか？

 語源 

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Proto-Germanic *herdo , from PIE *kerdh- "a row, group, herd". Of any animals, wild or domestic, from c. 1200; of people, often in a disparaging sense, from c. 1400.  とあります。ゲルマン祖語のherdoが由来のようです。意味は「群れ」ですね。

 意味 

Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、a group of animals of the same type that live and feed together、a large group of people of the same type と説明があります。「（牛などの大きな動物の群れ」、「群衆」です。

“Based on those reasons and insight from overseas, even if all the willing individuals finished the vaccination, the acquisition of herd immunity to protect the society as a whole is considered difficult,” the subcommittee said in a statement. *1

 訳 

小委員会は声明のなかで、「こうした理由と海外からの洞察によれば、喜んでワクチン接種を受けても、社会全体を守る集団免疫の獲得は難しいと考えられる」と述べた。

 補足 
herd immunityは、集団免疫の事です。ところで集団免疫って正確に知ってますか？　ウィキペディアによれば、ある感染症に対して集団の大部分が免疫を持っている際に生じる間接的な保護効果であり、免疫を持たない人を保護する手段である。多数の人々が免疫を持っている集団では感染の連鎖が断ち切られる可能性が高く、病気の拡大は収まるか緩やかなものとなる、という意味らしいです。
