今日は"Spring wage negotiations highlight Japanese airlines’ pandemic struggles"と言う記事からです。
lamentは以前も紹介したと思います。これは覚えられなかった単語の一つです。この単語は、レベル6、英検準1級以上、TOEIC® L&Rスコア730点以上のレベルです。
さて、今日は航空業界の春闘の話です。
ANAやJALと言えば、ちょっと前まで就職したい会社の筆頭だったような記憶があります。昔、リクルートの時に航空業界に就職した同級生や先輩もいました。
また、海外出張でANAにはお世話になりましたが、搭乗するたびに良い会社だなといつも思ってました。
それが、このパンデミックのせいもあり、ＡＮＡは、航空事業に携わる人員を2025年度末までに現在よりも約２割少ない３万人程度に絞り込む計画だそうです。
ANAもJALも、またその関連会社も、今後人件費の削減にも取り組むのだと思います。リストラをやるんでしょうか？
就職したい会社で上位に来ることは今後はなさそうですね。

語源
Etymology Dictionaryによれば、mid-15c., back-formation from lamentation or else from Old French lamenter "to moan, bewail" (14c.) and directly from Latin lamentari "to wail, moan, weep, lament," from lamentum "a wailing, moaning, weeping." とあります。名詞のlamentationの逆成か、古フランス語のlamenterそして、ラテン語のlamentariが由来のようです。「泣き叫ぶ」と言う意味らしいです。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、to have or express very sad feelings about somebody/something と説明があります。「～を嘆き悲しむ、悼む、～に失望する、～を残念に思う」です。

大手航空会社の労働組合のリーダーは、パンデミックによるフライトの大幅な減少の中、若い世代にノウハウを伝えることが課題になっていると嘆いている。同時に業務の減少や、従業員の大量の退職、新入社員採用の抑制も原因になっていると述べている。彼らはまた、航空業界の存続が危機に瀕しているという懸念を表明した。
補足
exodusは、 a situation in which many people leave a place at the same timeの事です。standing in the wayも想像できますが、S+stand in the wayで、「Sは、邪魔・妨げ・障害になる」ですね。
