今日は"Toyota and Honda top list of carmakers facing climate-change risks"と言う記事からです。

susceptibleは復習です。レベル9、英検1級以上、TOEIC® L&Rスコア950点以上の単語です。

さて、最近、グリーンピースが、日本の 3 大自動車メーカーは、世界の自動車会社の中で気候変動による大きなリスクに直面しているという結果を出してます。

まぁ、日本列島自体が、台風あり、地震ありですからね。

トヨタ、ホンダ、日産は、台風、洪水から高温や水不足に至るまで、今後数年間で大きな課題に直面するだろうと言ってます。

なんだかよくわからない内容ですが、単なる日本の自動車産業たたきの一環でしょうか？

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、c. 1600, from Late Latin susceptibilis "capable, sustainable, susceptible," from Latin suscept-, past-participle stem of suscipere "to take, catch, take up, lift up; receive, admit; submit to; sustain, support, bear; acknowledge, accept," from sub "up from under" (see sub-) + capere "to take," from PIE root *kap- "to grasp."です。
後期ラテン語のsusceptibilis「capable, sustainable, susceptibleの意味」、ラテン語のsuscipere「to take, catch, take up, lift up・・・の意味」の過去分詞語幹のsuscept-、印欧祖語の*kap-「graspの意味」が由来のようです。
suscipereは、sub「下から上に」＋capere「取る」と分解されるみたいです。

 意味 

Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、susceptible (to something)で very likely to be influenced, harmed or affected by somethingと説明があります。「影響を受けやすい」の意味です。

ある程度、そのリストは地理的な現実を反映しています。アジアにも工場を持つ日本の自動車メーカーの工場は、台風の影響を受けやすい日本列島に点在しています。「台風」の言葉自体は「大きな風」を意味する日本語です。気候変動のリスクが最も少ない主要な自動車メーカーは、フォルクスワーゲン、ステランティス、および北部の気候に製造施設を持つ他のヨーロッパの自動車メーカーです。

To an extentはよく見かけます。​used to show how far something is true or how great an effect it hasですね。
