今日は"Kei Komuro, husband of former Princess Mako, passes New York bar exam"と言う記事からです。

commonerはなんとなくわかりますが、レベル10、英検1級以上の単語です。

さて、日本のマスコミのレベルの低さを表しているのでしょうか？小室さんが司法試験に合格したことを報じてます。

でも、まずはアメリカ ニューヨーク州の司法試験の合格、おめでとうございます。

ICUを卒業されているので、英語はぺらぺらなんでしょうけど、大変だったと思います。

 語源 

common+-er（比較級接尾辞）です。commonは、Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Old French comun "common, general, free, open, public" (9c., Modern French commun), from Latin communis "in common, public, shared by all or many; general, not specific; familiar, not pretentious."です。
古フランス語のcomun、ラテン語のcommunisが由来です。「共通の、公の、すべてまたは多くの人が共有する。一般的で、具体的ではない。親しみやすく、大げさではない。」の意味です。

 意味 

Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば以下です。

★​a person who does not come from a royal or noble family
・〔貴族・皇族に対して〕一般人、一般の人々、民間人、大衆、平民、庶民

 記事

 補足 

heirsは、a person who has the legal right to receive somebody’s property, money or title when that person diesです。
