さて、勝手に中国を支配している中国共産党の第20回党大会が22日、習近平総書記（国家主席）が3期目を継続することを確定して閉幕しました。
習氏は2018年、国家主席の任期を2期までとする当時の規制を撤廃し、終身統治への道を開きました。
これで習近平の回りには、現プーチンと同じようにイエスマンしかいなくなった気がします。そりが合わない李克強氏は外されるし。
中国って、このままだと急激な少子高齢化と労働力不足で、国力がどんどん落ちてゆくと思うのですが、だからこそ何をしでかすかわからないですね。ましてや、こんな一党独裁の国なんて。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、mid-15c., "causing fear," from Old French formidable (15c.), from Latin formidabilis "causing fear, terrible," from formidare "to fear," from formido "fearfulness, fear, terror, dread." Sense has softened somewhat over time, in the direction of "so great (in strength, size, etc.) as to discourage effort."です。
古フランス語のformidable、ラテン語のformidabilisが由来です。いずれも”causing fear”の意味ですね。時代と共に意味が少しソフトになって行ったようです。
