さて、日産自動車の元会長カルロス・ゴーン被告の国外逃亡を助けたとして実刑判決を受けた米国人のテイラー親子が、１週間前に米国に移送されていたそうです。
ピーター氏は米国に到着後すぐに釈放され、父親のマイケル・テイラー氏も手続き事項が終わり次第すぐに釈放される見通しだそうです。
また、カルロス・ゴーンと同じ日に拘留された元日産自動車取締役のグレッグ・ケリー氏は、ほとんどの容疑が免除され、今年初めに日本を去っています。彼は判決を不服として控訴しています。
最終的には、ゴーン本人が海外のどこかで死亡したときに終了となるんでしょうね。ゴーンが日本に帰って来ない限り、宙ぶらりんの休止状態が延々と続くという事でしょう。
日産って、こういうのがあってイメージが悪いし、また、エンジニアのCEOもいないし、技術系の人が蔑ろにされてる感じが大きいんですよね。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、"import or export secretly and contrary to law," 1680s, of Low German or Dutch origin (see smuggler). そして、そのsmugglerは、1660s, from Low German smuggeln or Dutch smokkelen "to transport (goods) illegally," apparently a frequentative formation of a word meaning "to sneak"です。
低地ドイツ語のsmuggeln、またはオランダ語のsmokkelenが起源みたいです。sneakの意味だそうです。
