よく見かける単語ですが、いつも思い出せない単語です。
- 発音：ラメント(赤字がアクセント)
- 品詞：他動詞、自動詞、名詞
- 意味：以下は他動詞の場合
★基本的な意味は、嘆き悲しむ。英語で説明すれば、to express sadness and feeling sorry about something.
lament (something)、lament that～ = to express or feel great sadness or disappointment about (somehing)/that. - 語源：lamenari(ラテン語で嘆き悲しむ)
- 使用例：
Trump was known to lament what he called unfair trade surpluses with the U.S. that Japan, China and other countries enjoyed.*1
トランプ大統領は、日本や中国はじめその他の国が享受しているアメリカとの不均衡貿易による黒字に失望していることで知られていた。
上の文のknownですが、これはknowの過去分詞形ではなくて形容詞と考えた方がいいです。
