classifyはよく目にします。classifiedというのもよく使われますね。
さて、政府は、アフガニスタンに残る日本人や現地スタッフを国外に退避させるため、航空自衛隊のC2輸送機1機とC130輸送機2機を首都カブールの空港へ向けて派遣しました。
今回は、空港までの輸送は除外されてるそうで、従って、脱出しようとする人は頑張って、空港まで来なくてはならない。
一方で、タリバン戦闘員は空港に続く道路に検問所を設け、「どこへ行くんだ」「家へ戻れ」と銃を向けて脅しているみたいです。
空輸すべき日本人らの空港までの移動が「自助」となり、安全に自衛隊機までたどり着けるのか見通せないのです。
無事の脱出を本当にお祈りします。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、"arrange in a class or classes, arrange according to common characteristics," 1782, from French classifier, from classe (see class (n.)) + -fier (see -fy). とあります。フランス語のclassifierが由来のようです。classはラテン語のclassisから来ていて、ローマ人たちの区分, 階級, 軍隊の事だったようです。過去分詞形のclassifiedは、Meaning "secret" (in reference to government information) is from 1941, American English.という事で、アメリカ英語が発端のようです。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、to arrange something in groups according to features that they have in common、to decide which type or group somebody/something belongs toや、to state that information is officially secret と説明があります。言うまでもなく「~を分類する」、「~を機密扱いにする」です。
