Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Old French renoncier "give up, cede" (12c., Modern French renoncer) and directly from Latin renuntiare "bring back word; proclaim; protest against, renounce," from re- "against" (see re-) + nuntiare "to report, announce," from nuntius "messenger" (from PIE root *neu- "to shout").です。
古フランス語のrenoncier「あきらめて、譲る」、ラテン語のrenuntiare「反対する、放棄する」が由来のようです。re-は「～に対して」、nuntiareは「報告する、発表する」です。
