- 意味：
★基本的な意味は価値や評判を悪くするとか、本来有している機能がうまく作用しないとかです。英語で言えば、to spoil somethng or make it weaker so that it's less effective.
impair (something) = to damage , spoil (somthing) or make (something) worse - 語源：im(強意)＋peioro(ラテン語で悪くする)
- 使用例：
"This lag in R&D expenditures by American-owned firms is weakening innovation and, accordingly, threatening to impair our national security" , according to the draft executive order.*1
アメリカ企業が研究開発費の停滞はイノベーションを減退している、結果的にアメリカの安全保障を害するおそれがある。
アメリカは日本や欧州からの自動車輸入は、アメリカの安全保障を害するとして輸入規制や関税を大幅に引き上げようとしてます。トヨタ自動車がアメリカに投資するといったばかりなのに。。もともとアメリカビッグ3の車の魅力がないからだと思うのですが。まぁ、テスラは頑張ってますけどね。
