conformは以前にも登場したかもしれません。
さて、あまり騒がれてないように感じますが、中共は中共の沿岸警備隊が武器を使用することを許可する法案を可決させました。2/1から有効になるそうです。
中共は、ブルネイ、マレーシア、フィリピン、ベトナムの4か国、および南シナ海の台湾とも領土問題で対立しているんですね。確かインドとも。
この法案は、それらの国々をけん制するのが目的だと思います。
バイデン新米大統領は、11月に菅首相に、日米安全保障条約の第5条が尖閣諸島を対象としていることを伝えてます。
もしかしたら、中共は全面戦争を仕掛けているんですかね。
いずれにしても、尖閣諸島が中国の領土だと急に言い出した中共には、すべてにおいて信頼をおけませんね。

語源
Etymology dictionaryによれば、from Old French conformer "conform (to), agree (to), make or be similar, be agreeable" and directly from Latin conformare "to fashion, to form, to shape; educate; modify," from assimilated form of com "together" + formare "to form".という事で、多分ラテン語のconformareが語源なのでしょう。「～に合わせて（com）形成する（formare）」がこの単語の本来の意味だと思います。
to comply withと同じような意味で使われるようになったのは、1610年代と説明されてます。
意味
Oxford learner's dictionariesによれば、1)to behave and think in the same way as most other people in a group or society、2)conform to/with somethingで、 to obey a rule, law, etc. comply、3)conform to/with somethingで、to agree with or match somethingとあります。すべて自動詞バージョンですが、他動詞もあります。
1は「順応する」、2は「（規則・習慣・様式など）に従う」、3は「（形状・性質・考え方など)に一致する」という事ですね。

中国外務省の報道官の華春瑩氏は金曜日の記者会見で、法案の内容は「さまざまな国の国際条約や慣行に準拠している」と述べた。
conventionは、いろいろ訳があると思いますが、今回の記事で使われている意味は、the way in which something is done that most people in a society expect and consider to be polite or the right way to do itだと思います。「慣例」の事です。
