今日は"70% of health care workers in Japan want to quit jobs"と言う記事からです。
prejudiceは、復習です。この単語レベルは5、英検2級以上、TOEIC® L&Rスコア600点以上です。普通に知っておいてよいレベルです。
さて、医療従事者の皆さんは大変な仕事だと思いますが、やはりと言うか、約70％の方がその仕事を辞めたいと考えているようです。
とある調査によれば、仕事を辞めたいかという質問に対して、回答者の36％が「時々」と感じ、21％が「頻繁に」、12％が「常に」と回答してます。
一方で、31％だけがそうではないと答えたそうです。
理由は「忙しすぎる」、「重い仕事の責任」、「賃金への不満」だそうです。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、 from Old French prejudice "a prejudice, prejudgment; damage" (13c.) and directly from Medieval Latin prejudicium "injustice," from Latin praeiudicium "prior judgment, judicial examination before trial; damage, harm," from prae- "before"+ iudicium "judgment," from iudex (genitive iudicis) "a judge". とあります。ラテン語のpraeiudiciumが由来です。prae-はpre-の事で「前に、前もって」、iudiciumは「ジャッジメント、判断」です。前もって判断するという感じですね。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、an unreasonable dislike of or preference for a person, group, custom, etc., especially when it is based on their race, religion, sex, etc. と説明があります。「先入観、偏見」です。「前もって判断する」に繋がります。
