alleviateは過去何回も登場してますので復習です。レベル10、英検1級以上の単語です。
さて、最近の円安のため日本のメーカーが拠点を海外からの日本へ移しているようです。
ここで言うメーカーとは、自動車部品から化粧品、家電製品に至るまで、あらゆるメーカーであり、この傾向は今年末にかけて加速すると予想されています。
やはり日本から輸出する方が安いし、現地での賃金も高騰している等を考えると日本へ移した方が良いのでしょうね。
円安は、外国からの観光客にもメリットはあるし、G7では唯一金利政策を変えない日本に降りかかった円安を逆手に、日本経済を成長させることが出来ないものでしょうか？

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Late Latin alleviatus, past participle of alleviare "lift up, raise," figuratively "to lighten (a burden), comfort, console," from assimilated form of Latin ad "to" (see ad-) + levis "light" in weight (from PIE root *legwh- "not heavy, having little weight"). とあります。後期ラテン語のalleviatus（alleviareの過去分詞）が由来です。分解するとad-とlevisとなるようで、前者は「～へ」、後者は「軽い」と意味です。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、to make something less severeと説明があります。「～を軽減・緩和する、和らげる」です。語源からも納得です。
