さて、米国国務省の報告書によれば、日本は商業的性風俗産業における児童搾取と移民の強制労働への対応が不十分な対応なため、かなり低いランクに位置付けられているようです。
確かに、この領域では日本はかなり遅れている感があります。
ちなみに、東アジアの他の国はというと、韓国は日本と同じポジション、中国と北朝鮮は最下位レベルに分類されてます。
韓国と同じだなんて、、
ランクを上げる為ではなくて、人権問題なので政府の迅速な対応に期待します。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、1803, "productive working" of something, a positive word among those who used it first, though regarded as a Gallicism, from French exploitation, noun of action from exploiter (see exploit (v.)). Bad sense developed 1830s-50s, in part from influence of French socialist writings (especially Saint Simon), also perhaps influenced by use of the word in U.S. anti-slavery writing; and exploitation was hurled in insult at activities it once had crowned as praise.です。フランス語のexploitationが由来のようです。元の意味は「生産的な働き」という、前向きな意味だったようです。その後、フランスの社会党の著作で悪い意味へ転じたという事らしいです。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、a situation in which somebody treats somebody else in an unfair way, especially in order to make money from their workと説明があります。「〔人・集団などの〕搾取、利己的な目的での利用」の意味です。搾取は「他人に帰属すべき権利や利得を不正に侵害したり取得することや、優越的立場を濫用し他人を使役して不当な利益を得ること、労働者を必要労働時間以上に働かせ、そこから発生する剰余労働の生産物を無償で取得することを表すためにも日常的に用いられる。」とWikipediaにあります。

性産業における児童労働搾取のケースでは、報告書は、多数の被害者が特定されているものの、彼らを保護する努力はほとんどなされていない事を示している。つまり、人身売買の被害者が一般的に受けるべきの保護もなされていない。
補足
screenは、ここでは、to protect somebody from something dangerous or unpleasant, especially to protect somebody who has done something illegal or dishonestですかね？
trafficking indicatorsの意味がいまいちです。
