今日は"COVID-19 cases on the rise as Japan enters the holiday season"と言う記事からです。
recuperateは復習です。レベル11、英検1級以上の単語です。
さて、コロナウイルスですが、年末年始に向けて全国的に増加すると予測されており、東京での感染は1月初旬にピークに達すると予測されています。
感染者数は、12/4の 89,622 から 2 週間後の 12/18には 136,407 に増加し、日曜日には 149,665 となりました。第７波の真っ只中の８月中旬には約260,000だったので、結構な数です。
今年は、同時にインフルエンザも流行すると言われています。私は12/24にインフルエンザワクチンを打ちました。そしてコロナワクチンは本日接種します。
これで、十分な準備が出来ましたので正月は鹿児島へ帰省します。が、兄から帰省に際しては、PCR検査をした方が良いと言われました。
何やら、鹿児島全部ではないと思いますが、東京、名古屋、大阪あたりに行った人は、職場でコロナが出ないように、念のために鹿児島に帰ってから1週間休む場合があるようです。びっくりしました。。

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、from Latin recuperatus, past participle of recuperare "to get again," in Medieval Latin "revive, convalesce, recover," which is related to recipere "to hold, contain" (see receive). Specific sense of "recover from exhaustion or sickness" is from 1864. です。
ラテン語の動詞recuperareの過去分詞形であるrecuperatusが由来です。「疲労や病気から回復する」という意味は、1864 年からだそうです。

政府は、重篤な症状に苦しむリスクが高い人、つまり65歳以上、小学生以下（通常は12歳以下）、妊娠中の人、基礎疾患のある人は、熱が出たら医者に行くことを求めています。他の人は、自己検査キットを使用し、陽性となった場合は自宅で療養するようにとの事です。
補足
underlying diseaseは、《an ～》基礎疾患、原因疾患のことです。
