さて、今日は医科歯科と東工大が統合した新大学の名称の話です。新しい名前は「東京科学大学」、英語では「Institute of Science Tokyo」だそうです。
新大学が「科学」の発展を担うという強い意志と、東京に本拠を置く大学であることから、名称の先頭は「東京」を継承したんだそうです。
医科歯科は医学部・歯学部2学部で学生数は約3000人、東工大は理・工など6学部で約1万人が学びます。
統合が実現した場合、研究力が高い上位旧帝大に並ぶ大学が誕生することになり、国が2021年度、国立大などに交付した運営費交付金で比較すると、トップは東大の835億円で、東京科学大学は北大(366億円)と同規模となります。
ところで、外語大と一橋を加えた4大学統合の話はもうなくなったんですかね？

古フランス語のsoliciter, solliciter、ラテン語のsollicitare「邪魔する、喚起する、困らせる、嫌がらせをする、刺激する、挑発する」あたりが起源のようです。

In November-December last year, the two universities solicited proposals on the new university’s name on their websites. They received over 6,000 proposals, based on which the integration preparatory committee considered a name that meets “the purpose of the integration and the organizational culture the new university aims to achieve,” according to the statement. *1
両大学は昨年１１～１２月、新大学名の募集をウェブサイトで行った。6,000件以上の提案があり、統合準備委員会は「統合の目的と新大学が目指す組織文化」に合致する名前を検討した。
