今日は"Japan eyes reform of outdated labor systems based on gender 'roles'"と言う記事からです。
intactは復習になると思います。レベル7、英検準1級以上、TOEIC® L&Rスコア730点以上の単語です。
さて、世界経済フォーラムが毎年公表する「ジェンダーギャップ指数」によると日本のジェンダーギャップは先進国で最低レベル、2021年は156カ国中120位だったそうです。
アジア諸国の中でも韓国や中国、ASEAN諸国より低いと言う結果です。
男性は働き、女性は家を守る、そんな価値観がベースにあると思います。悪くはないし、まぁ、これはこれで、男性でも女性でも支持する人はいるでしょう。
今の若い世代を見ると、そんな価値観自体が無いように思います。私自身60手前ですが、あまり意識したことはないです。
会社でも、子供が出来たら男性でも普通に半年以上、休暇を取る人も結構います。
そのうち変わっていくと思いますが、楽観すぎますかね？

Etymology Dictionaryによれば、mid-15c., from Latin intactus "untouched, uninjured; undefiled, chaste; unsubdued," from in- "not" (see in- (1)) + tactus, past participle of tangere "to touch," from PIE root *tag- "to touch, handle." とあります。ラテン語のintactusが由来です。in-はNotの意味、tactusはtangere「触る」の過去分詞形です。
意味
Oxford Learner's Dictionariesによれば、complete and not damaged と説明があります。「損傷を受けていない、完全なままの」の意味です。語源から「触れない」という事ですから、この意味になったのは納得できます。

補足
revampは、a change to the form of something, usually to improve its appearance、stereotypicalは、based on a fixed idea or image that many people have of a particular type of person or thing, but which is often not true in reality、notionは、an idea, a belief or an understanding of somethingです。
