今日2023/7/20(Thu)は、onerous, nudge, hastenの3つです。
今日も英検1級でる順パス単のSection12からです。
家内が英検準1級を持ってるとかで、英検を受けたことがない私に、割と「ドヤ顔」をしてきます。TOEICは私のほうが100点くらい上なんですが。準1級と1級ではレベルが全然違う事を認識しているので、英検1級を取って、早めに「ドヤ顔」で来るのを阻止したいと思います。こういうのもある種のモチベーションになりますね。ちなみに子供たちは、私が追い付けない位、何周も前を突っ走っている状態です。。

意味：厄介な、煩わしい、骨の折れる
解説：oneと言えばonus「負担、重荷、責任」や、exonerate「の疑いを晴らす」にも入ってます。という事で、「負担や重荷のある」からこのような意味になるのは想像がつきます。

解説：フランス語由来で、haste+enのようなのです。このhasteは名詞で、「急ぐこと」の意味です。有名なことわざ「急がば回れ」はhaste makes wasteです。これで覚えられませんか？
